Here is a view down into the canyon from the visitors center. Below are the power plants... each housing generators. Both power plants are pretty much identical to one another except that the plant on the Arizona side houses 9 generators vs. 8 generators on the Nevada side. Further downstream from the power plants, there are the valve houses on either side of the canyon... it is here that water is "spilled" when the level in Lake Mead gets too high. When operating at full power, the generators can create enough electricity for 750,000 people.
